Structure is an item we pay for whether we see it or not. Vaulted ceilings can provide a greater sense of space to a small dwelling. Costs of following the line of a structure or exposing beams and decking are minimal compared to other building costs. Typically it will require additional sheetrock equal to the difference between the base of a triangle and its hypotenuse, and additional care in installing sheetrock cleanly adjacent beams.
A high ceilings (for example 10' ceiling height) can also be utilized to create a greater sense of space in a small dwelling. Cost associated may include the cost of additional sheetrock & insulation, taller studs and windows, and higher HVAC costs apply for larger volumes.
