One of the lovely things about a courtyard house, is how much privacy, quiet and connection to nature the layout can provide.  Bedroom spaces can be separated to the three different arms of the courtyard, allowing sound isolation and multiple natural light sources.

In this home, the studio apartment can be used separately or incorporated into the home as a suite.  Care is taken to provide diagonal views through rooms,  directing your view along the longest axis of the space, to create breadth in a small home.

The Butterfly Courtyard House incorporates many opportunities for vegetable gardening, and solar and rainwater harvesting.  In heavy snow climates, a gable or shed roof can replace the butterfly roof and still achieve many of the same goals.
