KOI POND
A Koi pond is often a desired feature in a traditional Japanese garden. In renovating this garden we worked with the concepts of Tamamono illustrated in Sukiya Living Magazine and proposed mounding, wave like, sun tolerant plantings. Tamamono design originated from a desire to reflect in a smaller tableau, the silhouettes of nature. The use of Taxus baccata ‘Repandens’, allows us to train and shear plants so that they will in the future simulate interlocking cresting waves. Chamaecyparis obtusa, Acer Palmatum and a Taxus media ‘Hillii’ hedge complete the main forms of the garden. Lastly we planted forest moss, and Ophioposgon japonicus to form a future green carpet.
