Winter roads in Girdwood, Alaska can have snow piled 15 feet high on each side. In the summer, the heavy rains and forested sites promote moss and wood deterioration. Archiflora likes to design homes to last, and discuss with their clients maintenance aspects of their material choices for their micro-climates. Here, at ARC steel pipe-piles protect the structure against 50-year floods, lift the ground floor above snow level, and create a pleasing floating appearance in the summer, as native plants and grow under the edges of the house. Concrete Terazzo floors, are heated using hot water (hydronic heating), and are equipped for ski boot traffic.
